Collection: The Parthenogenesis on Land Collection

Animals have reproduced through parthenogenesis (Greek for ‘virgin birth’) for millions of years. We think it is miraculous. Scientists think that the ability to reproduce asexually came about as a last-ditch effort for species facing adverse conditions. This is a scenario which offers tremendous hope. Although rare, parthenogenesis has been observed in more than 80 vertebrate species, about half of which are fish or lizards! Nature never ceases to amaze.
