Flowers at a farmers market.

Flowers at a farmers market.

Fall carries its own mood, comfort, nostalgia, and that little spark of excitement.

I was chilly, but there were warm blooms. Dahlias glowed. There’s something about orange that feels joyous.

It made me wonder, if these flowers look so vibrant to us, how do they appear to pollinators? Bees, for instance, see flowers in ultraviolet light, revealing hidden patterns that act like landing strips guiding them to nectar. Imagine the same marigold glowing with an entirely different design to a bee’s eye… there are layers we can’t see.

I photographed these flowers on my phone and felt like I was carrying the flowers home. They can set the mood for the whole season.
